Katie Mayes has taught in the Gadsden City School System for 18 years. She has taught fourth, second and first grades for the last 16 years at Mitchell Elementary School. She has a B.S. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and a Masters in Elementary Education from The University of Alabama. She is married to Carey, and they have three children, Lauren, Mary Katherine, and John. Her family are members of
12th Street Baptist Church.
