Empowering All Through Educational Opportunities

Mission Statement

To prepare and inspire all students to become college and career ready through learning, serving, and excelling.

At Gadsden City Schools, we are proud to be a part of what makes the city of Gadsden an exceptional place to live. More than 650 employees, including National Board Certified and highly-qualified teachers, as well as other award-winning professionals, are dedicated to seeing approximately 5,500 students reach their greatest potential. With more than 30 competitive academic and athletic teams as well as more than a dozen performing ensembles and countless clubs, there are opportunities for every student to grow and expand their horizons.

Our school system offers one of the strongest fine arts programs in the state, and our career training programs are among the most technologically advanced in the Southeast.

A Message From Our Superintendent:

TonyReddick

It is with great honor that I assume the role of Superintendent of the Gadsden City School System. After more than 30 years of experience, you might even say it is the fulfillment of a dream.

In accordance with the system’s stated mission, I seek to empower teachers, students, and parents to engage in the use of educational resources to impact student learning and promote higher achievement, and furthermore, to ensure that all students graduate from safe and caring schools, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and desire to succeed. I intend to promote full engagement in the learning process, including providing support to the instructional staff so that they may be able to enhance their ability to reach each student at his or her level of understanding in order to maximize the benefits of their instruction, to engage the administrative staff in constructive debate about how to best meet the social and emotional needs of each student, and to encourage the support staff that no job is too small to accomplish big things.

Realizing the important role the entire community plays in the success of our beloved school system, I intend to invite all stakeholders to be a part of the journey, whether by supporting our athletic programs, our fine arts programs, or mentoring students individually or in small groups, there is a place at the table for all to serve and to be served. The harvest is truly plentiful…

Our school system has high expectations for student achievement, and we must work TOGETHER to accomplish each of our goals.

A Message From Our Mayor

mayor_guytonWe hope your interest in the Gadsden City Schools means you may be considering a move to the “City of Champions”, Gadsden. We are proud of our Gadsden City School System. From our Even Start Program, designed to help young children develop necessary skills to succeed in the first grade – to our new Gadsden City High School, covering grades nine through twelve, we believe any child who goes through our system will be well prepared to pursue the professional, technical, or vocational career they choose, if they apply themselves.

Specifically, the Gadsden City School System offers students Advanced Academic, Academic and Standard Diplomas with Tech Prep endorsement in Engineering, Marketing, and Health Technology & Occupation Diplomas. Our four-period/block scheduling allows seniors to take college courses at Gadsden State Community College.

For the past 15 years, our city schools have produced between 1 and 6 National Merit Scholars each year. The State has acclaimed the system’s Fine Arts in Choral, Strings, Band, Jazz Band, and Visual Arts. In addition, students have participated in the Quiz Bowl, and been accepted to the Beta Club and National Honor Society. Advanced placement courses include Algebra II, Calculus, American History, Political Science, English, and others.

A coalition of schools and school systems in the Gadsden Metropolitan Statistical Area, is working with the local Industrial Development Authority, the chamber of commerce, Gadsden State Community College and others, to create a viable Workforce Development Program; one that will assess our needs, determine the best avenues for accomplishing related programs, and the funding necessary to initiate and continue the effort each year in the foreseeable future.

On behalf of the Gadsden City Council and the citizens of Gadsden, we invite you to talk with the Superintendent of Education, Dr. Ed Miller, or any of his staff about programs and opportunities in the Gadsden City School System.

Sincerely,
Sherman Guyton
Mayor, City of Gadsden
