Dr. Smoots is a professional in education in the Gadsden City School System. She has served over ten years as an administrator for the Gadsden City Board of Education.
Dr. Smoots is a graduate of the historic Talladega College in Talladega, AL where she received her B.A. degree in Rehabilitation/Social Work. She earned her M.A. degree in Special Education and Ed.S. and doctorate in Counselor Education at University of Alabama.
She has held the positions of teacher, counselor, principal, and coordinator. She currently serves as Director of Student Services and Attendance where she is a member of District VI of the Alabama Association of Attendance Supervisors, the Alabama School Counseling Association, and CLAS.
Dr. Smoots oversees the Secondary Alternative School Program and the School Counselors for Gadsden City Schools.
Dr. Smoots is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
